Fire Watch is the new Bae Watch


A fire watch is a situation where an individual is assigned to take care of a fire-prone area in circumstances where say a fire prevention machine isn’t working temporarily or the institution is in the process of installing fire hazard extinguishers. These people are usually assigned at fire-prone places. A fire watch is a short term solution and cannot be relied upon for a long time. These personnel’s job is to minimize fire if in case fire breaks out on the site. They are well trained to tackle such situations and are well equipped at all times. It is vital to have a fire watch in the absence of other preventive measures.

  • Patrolling
  • Looking out and sensing hazards
  • Keeping check of the safety equipment

Requirements to be a fire watch guards

  • The personnel should be more than 18 years of age 
  • He needs to be up at all times. Or then there can be shifts between two personnel, but at the time of their turn, they are required to stay awake. 
  • The personnel should be well-versed with fire safety
  • They shouldn’t have any other jobs assigned to them at the time of their duty
  • If it is a multi-story site, one fire watchman should be placed on each floor. 

Eligibility

All the people who want to become a fire watch guard need to go through specific examinations. These examinations vary from region to region 
For example: in New York, Fire Department of the city of New York (FDNY), fire watch personnel are required to pass a test. And they can attend 3-hour preparation programs that are available for candidates.
